Defend Democracy Radio is a bold, timely, and innovative 24/7 online radio platform broadcasting music, news, and commentaries that uphold democratic values and civil rights and creates a defense to disinformation, lies and conspiracy theories.
The existential threat to democracy is a pressing concern in today's world. Factors such as the erosion of democratic norms, the rise of authoritarianism and autocracy, and the spread of misinformation are undermining democratic institutions and processes. These threats can lead to a decline in public trust, weaken the rule of law, and ultimately jeopardize the stability and integrity of democratic societies in the USA and around the world.
One of the key factors contributing to the rise of authoritarianism is the erosion of democratic norms and institutions. This can occur through the manipulation of electoral processes, the weakening of checks and balances, and the suppression of dissent. Authoritarian leaders often consolidate power by undermining independent media, the judiciary, and other institutions that are essential for a functioning democracy.
Another contributing factor is the spread of misinformation and propaganda. Authoritarian regimes frequently use state-controlled media and social media platforms to disseminate false information, manipulate public opinion, and discredit opposition voices. This creates an environment where citizens are less informed and more susceptible to manipulation.
In a media environment increasingly saturated by unsubstantiated reports, untrue and distorted podcasts, censorship, and disengagement, our project aims to fill the gap with people-powered storytelling, protest soundtracks, and citizen-driven journalism aimed at defending our democratic system.
Our playlists —organized into thematic categories — serve as both archive and amplifier for democratic culture. The station will be accessible globally via app and Web, empowering communities from the U.S. to Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and beyond.

We will highlight the voices of protestors across the country who courageously take to the streets every day to defend democracy, human rights and civil liberties. And we will encourage participatory democracy in communities across the country, promoting a process of regular engagement in civic affairs and local economic development that complements traditional representative democracy.
